Occupational Categories for Engineers Recognized by Engineers Australia

Engineers are classified according to their educational backgrounds. Engineers who wish to migrate to Australia can do so through CDR. Choose the best and most relevant ANZSCO occupation code from all the engineering categories. Australia has three distinct engineering occupational groups.  

  1. Professional Engineer
  2. Engineer technologist
  3. Engineering Associate 
  4. Engineer Manager

Professional Engineer

It means you have the qualifications to gain their trust. Business perceives it as a sign you are capable of taking on more responsibility. It earns you respect among colleagues. Your own hard-won accomplishment is a source of personal pride and proportion.

An engineer must earn a four-year degree, work under a professional engineer for at least four years, pass two competency tests, and obtain a license from their state’s licensing board. PEs should constantly update their skills throughout their careers in order to retain their licenses.

However, the results are well worth the effort. Their specific skills combined with their high moral standards and quality assurance levels allow PEs to make us more efficient, keep us safer, and enable us to live better lives than ever before.

The engineering profession was open to everyone a century ago. The first engineering licensing law was authorized in Wyoming in 1907 to ensure the general well-being, security, and welfare of the people. Presently, every state regulates engineering to ensure public safety by allowing only Professional Engineers (PEs) to sign and seal engineering plans and offer their services to the general public.

  • Engineers who want to use the seal of PE must complete a series of steps to prove their competence.
  • Obtain a four-year degree in engineering from an accredited program
  • Take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Experience as an engineer under the direction of a PE
  • Take the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam

Professional Engineers have the following responsibilities:

  • The ability to lead and manage
  • By addressing issues of environment, community, and society holistically, we can pursue opportunities for engineering
  • Solving a variety of problems.

Engineering Technologist

Engineering technologists specialize in improving and utilizing existing technology within the engineering field. In contrast to more hypothetical science-based engineering degree education, engineering technology education is more applied. 

The role of technologists is to apply engineering standards and specialized abilities in a wide range of projects. Engineering Technologists are not uncommon to hold senior management positions in the industry or to become entrepreneurs. 

Technologist roles tend to be centered on the technological spectrum closest to product improvement, manufacturing, construction, and engineering operational functions.

You are an Engineering Technologist who can use your strong knowledge base to complete complex and explicit engineering tasks. You are an expert in engineering systems and their communications, capable of identifying and solving complex, technical problems.

Engineering technologists are responsible for:

  • The system should be examined from the point of view of interactions
  • Modifying and adapting established engineering practices
  • Advancing engineering technology

Engineering Associate

The Engineering Associate is responsible for moderately challenging engineering errands that require standard techniques, criteria, and methodologies to be utilized. In your position as an Engineering Associate. 

With your knowledge and skills, you protect the systems, stocks, and structure that your industry – and Australia – depends on.

An engineering associate’s main responsibilities are:

  • Focusing on specific elements of the system
  • The use of established practices and procedures in accordance with codes.

Engineering Manager

After 12 years of schooling or equivalent, an Engineering Manager needs a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or a related subject. Management of technical and engineering activities within an organization is the responsibility of engineering managers. 

In addition to providing supervision and guidance to other engineers, they are responsible for planning engineering projects and overseeing their efficient execution. 

Engineers associates have the following responsibilities:

  • Monitor the progress of various projects
  • Communication with customers that is effective
  • Create new products in collaboration with the sales team
  • Prepare budgets for various projects
